The setting

A little corner
of the Blyth Valley.

Tucked away in the Suffolk countryside, just outside Halesworth, the small hamlet of Mells sits along the River Blyth valley. It's a landscape of quiet lanes, open fields and traditional brick buildings that have been part of rural life for generations.

It was here that we undertook the transformation of a modest red-brick outbuilding, creating something fresh and practical while respecting the character of its surroundings.

Before the work

Breathing new life
into an existing building.

Before work began, the building had the familiar appearance of an old Suffolk outbuilding: weathered red brickwork, an ageing pantile roof, a well-worn timber door and traditional multi-pane windows.

There was character in its simplicity, but the building was ready for a new chapter.

Our work brought a renewed appearance to the single-storey structure, with carefully considered brickwork, traditional-style roofing and new windows and doors.

The intention was straightforward: to create a building that felt properly finished and at home in its rural setting.

Materials & detail

Traditional character.
Fresh appeal.

The completed building combines the warmth of traditional red brick with the clean lines of white-framed windows and doors.

The clay-coloured roof tiles complement the brickwork, while simple exterior lanterns add a finishing touch.

A gravelled frontage and timber boundary fencing sit comfortably alongside the building's traditional appearance.

Nothing about the finished result needs to be elaborate. Its appeal is in the balance of materials, proportions and details that suit the surrounding countryside.

The transformation

Small buildings.
Meaningful transformations.

Not every building project needs to be a grand extension or a complete house renovation.

Sometimes, the most rewarding work involves taking an overlooked part of a property and giving it renewed purpose.

This project in Mells is a lovely example of how careful building work can transform a modest structure without losing the character that made it worth keeping in the first place.

Because good building work isn't simply about making something new. It's about making something that belongs.
