BLYTH BUILDERSSUFFOLK

Where we work

East Suffolk, within reach of Heveningham.

We work within about twenty miles of the yard: the market towns, the coast, and the villages between. Further afield for the right job.

    About 5 miles from Heveningham

    Halesworth

A market town on the River Blyth with a long, narrow Thoroughfare of timber-framed and Georgian-fronted buildings, many of them listed, and a ring of Victorian and later housing around it. The villages nearby, Wenhaston, Holton, Walpole, Cratfield, Huntingfield and Heveningham itself, are brick, flint, render and pantile.

  2. Placeholder image of houses in Southwold, Suffolk

    About 14 miles from Heveningham

    Southwold

A coastal town almost entirely within a conservation area: Georgian and Victorian brick, painted render, flint, Suffolk white brick and clay pantiles, with the greens, the lighthouse and the seafront. Reydon adjoins it inland and has the bungalows and later houses that Southwold does not.

  3. Placeholder image of houses in Walberswick, Suffolk

    About 13 miles from Heveningham

    Walberswick

A village on the south bank of the Blyth, across the water from Southwold, with a green, a common and a mix of flint and brick cottages, weatherboarded and pantiled outbuildings, and early twentieth-century houses. Almost all of it is within a conservation area and many buildings are listed.

    About 9 miles from Heveningham

    Saxmundham

A small market town on the old road between Ipswich and Yarmouth, with a High Street of Georgian and Victorian brick, a church on the hill and newer housing to the edges. The villages round about, Kelsale, Benhall, Sternfield and Yoxford, have the timber-framed, brick and pantile houses typical of east Suffolk.

  5. Placeholder image of houses in Leiston, Suffolk

    About 12 miles from Heveningham

    Leiston

A town shaped by the Garrett engineering works, with Victorian red-brick terraces and villas, the Long Shop, later council and private housing, and the heath and coast towards Sizewell and Thorpeness. Solid, well-built houses that extend well.

  6. Placeholder image of houses in Thorpeness, Suffolk

    About 15 miles from Heveningham

    Thorpeness

A planned holiday village laid out from 1910 around the Meare, with mock-Tudor, weatherboarded and rendered houses, the House in the Clouds and the windmill. The houses are distinctive and often lightly built, and repairing and extending them well takes care with timber, render and detail.

  7. Placeholder image of houses in Aldeburgh, Suffolk

    About 16 miles from Heveningham

    Aldeburgh

A coastal town with a Georgian High Street, the Moot Hall, the shingle beach and a conservation area covering most of it. Painted render, red and white brick, flint and pantiles, with larger twentieth-century houses on the edges towards Thorpeness and Snape.
